Gearing Up For the School Year
Navigating educational options during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you're like me you're probably nervous and overwhelmed about the upcoming school year. The mere thought of having your child(ren) in the house all day while learning in an untraditional manner is nerveracking. I truly understand your plight as a mother of two sons. You want to return back to some level of normacy-- meet your child's teachers face-to-face, attend 'back-to-school night', and my favorite one-- pick your children up from school while discussing what was learned in class. Yes! I, like you, long for 2019 when things were a little simplier; however those times are only memories now as public health takes precedence.
As much as we don't want to, we have to wrap our mind around what we, as parents, must prepare for in three to four weeks--SCHOOL. As an educator and leader of Urban Scholar Academy, I communicate with dozens of parents daily, sometimes multiple times a day. And like I tell every parent during this difficult time-- "Although it seems uncertain, WE will get through this together."
Working together and staying encouraged will be the only way we can ensure academic success for our students this year. With both parents and students in mind, my staff and I modified our programs (tutoring, homework club, homeschool) to accomodate all types of distance learners and parents' work schedules. We are committed to helping students navigate through school closures. I encourage all readers to download our course offerings to see how we can best support your child(ren). Please know you are not in this alone as we are here for you. In the words of Helen Keller, "Alone we can do so little; however together we can do so much." Onward we march toward the higher calling--equitable education!
