Homework Club (2016-2017)
Description: From September through June, our dedicated staff provide individualized support to K-8th grade students in all content subject areas within an after-school setting. Additionally, we take in pride in providing a safe & nurturing place (academies) for students to develop stronger work habits, strengthen their academic skills, and develop lasting friendships.
Summer Academy--June 19th-August 4th, 2017
Description: We enjoyed working with forty scholars this summer as we provided them opportunities in coding, drama, dance, yoga, science, reading, math, and swimming. We can't forget all of the cool field-trips that were took as well! Urban Scholar Academy ROCKS!!
Saturday Academy (Winter/Spring) January-May 2017
Description: Scholars had a fun time learning computer coding, piano; and conducting various science experiments in preparation for the 2nd Science & Engineering Scholar Fair [@ new location]. Additionally, as part of our "service" component, scholars performed community service through a park/neighborhood clean-up, while later visiting the L.A. Earth Day Festival.
Winter/Spring Break Academies: December 2016 & April 2017
Description: Scholars from all over came during winter & spring breaks and enjoyed participating in science experiments provided by Mad Science, fun fun field-trips, technology, and lessons to improve their writing skills.
Saturday Academy (Fall): Sept. 8, 2016 -Dec. 19, 2016
Description: Saturday scholars learned about entrepreneurship and created their own products to sell at the 1s Annual Urban Scholar Business Marketplace with sponsors Wells Fargo Bank & Papa John's Pizza (Darby Park Recreational Center). They also got a chance to serve meals to homeless individuals within the Los Angeles area.
Summer Academy: June 13, 2016- July 29, 2016
Description: Kindergaten thru 8th grade students enjoyed the summer months making new friends, creating lasting memories through fun field-trips and performing/fine art classes, and getting a jump start academically for the 2016-2017 school year.
Science Fair: Saturday, April 2, 2016 [A-MAN Center]
Description: First thru seventh grade students showcased their science fair project investigations conducted during the Saturday Academy winter term. Winners included projects on the effect of food on human behavior, art robots, the effects of soda.
Saturday Academy (Winter): January 18, 2016- April 2, 2016
Description: Scholars engaged in physical fitness, character development, and participated in project based learning activities--science fair investigations. Additionally, students participated in an "Heal the Bay" community service beach clean-up.
Saturday Academy (Fall): Sept. 26, 2015- Dec. 12, 2015
Description: Scholars engaged in physical fitness, character development, built robotics, conducted animal experiments; and learned about informative writing, as well as took trips to San Diego Safari Zoo & Whale Watching, We've had a blast learning about so much!!!
Saturday Academy (Fall): October 25, 2014- December 20,2014
Description: Scholars engaged in physical fitness, nutrition, character development, mathematics, and physical science (chemistry & robots) lesson activities (click on the pictures below).
Community Service Day: November 29, 2014
Description: Scholars prepared meals & banners for homeless individuals in the Los Angeles area (click on the pictures below).
Saturday Academy (Spring): Feb. 15, 2014 - May 10, 2014
Description: For the first time, many of our scholars were able to build solar power devices and learn about effective ways to take care of the environment through literature, experiments, and field-trips (click on the pictures below).
Community Service Day: December 14, 2013
Description: Scholars worked together to clean up Darby Park in Inglewood, California (click on the pictures below).
